The brief for this task has come from the UN General Assembly.
A new planet has been discovered on the far side of the Sun, exactly in the opposite point on earth’s solar orbit. Sensors indicate that although having virtually the same environmental and geophysical features as the earth, the highest form of life there consists of flowering plants.
The UN has decided to embark four colony ships to this new planet. The trip will take about 4 years and 2000 souls will make the journey. A leader is needed who will take the ships their with supreme authority, and become the head of the governing council for three years after landing, before handing over to an elected successor.
Your chosen person can be living or dead, but must be from the 20th century. They must not be football, cricket or rugby players, coaches or managers. You must easure the abilities, achievements, weaknesses, knowledge and experience of your chosen candidate against a clear and realistic insight into the nature of the task, and the nature and background of the 2000 people who would form the expedition / new population.
Your report should be clear, concise and well structured. It should be about 1500 words (+-5%) excluding appendices. Your report should give clear indications about your chosen person’s experience, abilities and track record, which would give clear guidance as to their level of suitability for the post of Expedition Leader.

· Quality of presentation, layout, spelling, punctuation, grammar, correct use and construction of references and bibliography are all within the marketing remit. This is a level 2 Higher Education Module.
· You should demonstrate in your report as evidenced, a clear understanding and interpretation of the relationship between Leadership theory and the nature of the task and your choice of individual to be entrusted with it.
