Question: The Aberfan Disaster
Answer: This was a terrible accident that happened on 21st of October 1966. A coal and waste tip slid down the mountain into a small mining village in south Wales called Aberfan. The coal and waste slid down the mountain destroying everything in its path including a small farming cottage where all the people there died and the primary school which was just down the bottom of the mountain where it killed just over half of the children attending the school, the number of children who died was 116 and 5 of the teachers teaching at the school died in this tragic accident.
The coal and waste tumbled and ruined the school, the farm house and approximately 20 houses from the village before it eventually came to a Holt. All together this terrible disaster killed 144 people.
