Answer: In most articles one will read about housing in Britain, considerably more focus will be given to urban areas as opposed to rural areas. It is easy to forgive such actions, as at first glance the question of rural housing seems to be a very simple matter. Housing one quarter of the nation’s population on 90% of the landmass seems achievable, and the only mention of any difficulties in the matter surfaced in Rogers’ 1976 review of rural housing (Shucksmith 1990: 15). Since then the subject has been studied in more detail and perhaps a deeper understanding of the difficulties in supplying housing in rural areas is emerging. In 2008 MP Mathew Taylor completed his report on rural housing and the rural economy for the Prime Minister exploring both the predicaments in the matter and also possible solutions (Satsangi, M., Gallent, N., Bevan, M. 2010: 3).
