Question: A written report reflecting upon the teaching of English in primary schools today, with reference to lessons observed in school
Answer: This assignment will endeavour to address the National Literacy Strategy since its implementation in September 1998. I will critically discuss its usefulness in English lessons, within primary school classrooms, through lesson observation in my attachment school. I will contemplate its aims and discuss the resources that strive to support it. This assignment will also reflect upon and relate to any primary reading sources that I feel support my report.
Since the ‘literacy hour’ was introduced in September 1998 there have been many reports, surveys and a considerable volume of research carried out in order to highlight its presence in English lessons within primary schools. In a survey by Sainbury (1998) she discusses the introduction of the ‘literacy hour’ and how it was implemented.
