Answer: Ingestion of carbohydrates following exercise is associated with a series of metabolic events which result in resynthesis of glycogen in skeletal muscle. In contrast to the rapid depletion of stored carbohydrates which takes place in skeletal muscle during brief bouts of heavy or prolonged exercise, the complete restoration of muscle glycogen to pre-exercise levels in glycogen depleted muscle may require up to several days....(short extract)
