Question: Sociology UCAS Personal Statement
Answer: I have always been fascinated by the way our minds work, what causes us to do the things we do, how they are defined as “good” or “evil” and how as a society we react to these actions and codify them into social norms, expectations and laws. I caught the science bug and enjoy listening to podcasts like the “Infinite Monkey Cage” that covers a vast array of topics and does a great job of making them understandable. I read articles on all manner of scientific subjects in publications such as “The Economist” and other online outlets. In my current job I have dealt with quite a few legal cases both criminal and civil, I have also represented myself in Family Court when I was securing fair contact with my children. These experiences have given me an interest in how the law works and how legal decisions are arrived at and the roots of these lie in Sociology and Psychology. It w...(short extract)
