Question: Assess the view that the process of globalisation has led to changes in both of the amount of crime and the types of crimes committed.

Answer: Globalisation is where the world has a greater inter-connectiveness which has then led to changes in the opportunities which has then led to the changes in the opportunities to commit crime. There is also a breakdown of barriers throughout the world where people are now able to move from one place to another within the world. For example, it only takes under an hour to go to Paris via the Eurostar. This is due to the technological advancements which have happened in the 21st century which has enabled us to travel more frequently. Therefore, due to the advancements, this changes the amount of crime which is happening and the types of crimes which are being committed.
For example, Manuel Castel points out how the global economy is worth £1 trillion per annum, this shows how the ‘crime’ economy is profitable and as this is a very lucrative and developing economy. This has caused the...(short extract)
