Answer: When suffering from stress there are two main ways in managing it: Beta-Blockers (BB's) and Benzodiazepines (BZ's). When taking BB's they take effect in the heart and reduce activity in the sympathetic nervous system therefore reducing the adrenaline and non-adrenaline that will be released and therefore calming the person, it also slows the heart and decreases the blood pressure again making the person feel calmer. This is sort of stress management is always used for people with hypertension (high blood pressure). BB's also bonds to receptors on cells of the heart, circulatory system and other body parts that are usually stimulated when anxious or stressed, again this makes the person feel more calmer and relaxed.
