Answer: Aggression can be defined as any action or series of actions where the direct purpose is to cause injury or damage (Cardwell, 2000). Whereas most people understand this basic concept, the root causes of this behaviour are, like many psychological dilemmas, in constant dispute by many opposing theories.
Whereas the question of what determines aggression could be attempted using a ‘nature versus nurture’ approach, the extent to which aggressive behaviour is an individual phenomenon, i.e. everybody has their own personality and reasons behind getting aggressive, raises the question of individual characteristics.
