AFTER REVIEWING YOUR HYPOTHESIS AND OBJECTIVES, REDRAFT THE HYPOTHESIS AND THE OBJECTIVES AS NECESSARY.
Hypothesis:
Sustainable refurbishment will increase the rental value achievable for existing private
sector commercial office within the Midlands region.
Research
Objectives:
1. Identify the forces driving sustainable refurbishment of the commercial office property
and the barriers that are currently hindering its widespread utilisation in the private
sector.
2. Evaluate critically the suitability of the existing private sector commercial property
stock to achieve classification as a sustainable property.
3. Explore stakeholder views of those parties identified in objective 1 and those involved
with the RICS ‘Ska Rating Tool’. Investigate the preliminary data collected by that of the
Investment Property Sustainable Index (IPSI) in order to test the hypothesis.
4. Formulate recommendations for the sector, traditionally governed by economic imperative in order to help achieve targets set in the sustainability agenda through refurbishment of existing stock.

Primary is that which is first undertaken by the researcher and thus can be considered as data which “never before existed” (Blaxter, 2001:153 cited in CEM, 2008). Furthermore it is also believed to be ‘up--‐to--‐date’ in terms of that which is new and original and detailed at the time of publication and often highly specialized (White, 2000 cited in ibid.). Primary data is often classified as either qualitative or quantitative in nature.
