Answer: Leadership has a vital role in the present competitive business environment. Every organization should strive to employ and retain best leaders. By definition, leadership is ‘a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal’ (Northouse, 2007, p3). Bolden (2004) adds that, in this process, a leader (as a post holder) influences and motivates others to get involved in accomplishing a particular task. A Leader is thus the source of leadership; he/she is seen to act as an energizer, catalyst and visionary equipped with a set of abilities (communication, problem solving, people management, decision making, etc.) A leader is also expected to display excellent information processing, project management, customer service and delivery skills, along with proven business and political acumen (Bolden and Gosling, 2004).
