Answer: 1.3 - Dealing with disagreements between children and young people can be very challenging as they can be emotional. These can occur during breaks and lunchtimes and some times during learning time. When this happens you need to find out exactly what happened by listening to both sides starting from the beginning. The children should feel that they have been heard and that their point of view has been made. You have establish whether one of the children is in the wrong and make a decision if an apology is needed and if further steps is needed it should be referred to another member of staff. You will need to help them make the link between emotion and behaviour by helping them understand that their feeling can affect their behaviour. For example saying to a child, “I know you are upset because you could play with the building blocks today”
