Answer: I have a natural spirit of inquiry and advocacy and so have been attracted to law from an early age. Growing up in Malaysia has provided me with a microcosm on the question of social justice. Article 153 of the Federal Constitution controversially enshrines a policy of affirmative action for the Malays. This policy was due to the sentiment rooted back from the marginalisation of the Malays by colonialists. It was fascinating for me to see its link with Plato's writing on justice, as law can indeed be a weapon to defend the interests of one at the expense of another. I personally believe that the constitution needs to be rectified in reaffirming basic human rights to reflect the nation's demography today. Studying Nazi Germany in History showed me how atrocious acts can result from gradual erosion of the rule of law. Ironically, the dreadful past is close to the reality today.
