Question: TMA 01 What challenges do individuals face when giving and receiving care within families? Illustrate your answer using examples from K101 Unit 1.
Answer: The word care has many different meanings; to care for a child can be seen as a parent’s duty, carrying out the vital tasks each day to keep a child fed, clean, warm and safe. As adults we also want care. Many of our expectations about care come from our ideas about how families behave. To care for a less able person in some cases is a chosen career and in others a choice or self-felt duty. Social scientists recognise that care relationships place demands on people. This essay will look at the challenges faced when giving and receiving care. The observations and examples are taken from a selection of studies in the module materials.
