Answer: Life story work is a method of working with people to record the details about their background, history and personal development. A life story gathers together facts and images about the life of a given individual and the significant people in it. This can result in a ‘product’ - a book or video, an audio tape, or computer file - though it doesn’t have to. For some, the process itself, rather than the product, can yield most benefit for the individual involved. Life story work is often used with individuals who are vulnerable, or who may be going thorough difficult or challenging life transitions. It can take many forms including working with children and young people going through fostering and adoption processes; people with learning disabilities; people in hospices; with older people who have dementia; and those in long term residential care.
