Answer: Where and how we live can greatly impact on our opportunities in life. People living in deprived areas have their quality of life severely restricted by 'postcode poverty' which comprises a host of limiting factors such as poor job prospects, high crime levels, educational under-achievement, poor housing and poor health. In 2001, the government produced a new strategic action plan called 'A New Commitment to Neighbourhood Renewal ' to tackle the root problems of declining neighbourhoods by using partnerships between each localities' major players from the public, private, community and voluntary sectors to work together for the benefit of the whole community (Communities website)....(short extract)
