Answer: According to Townsend, care in a home setting was traditionally being provided by family, close friends and neighbours.( Unit 1, p46-47) However, more people now receive care in their own home from home care workers (HCW). Having someone unknown coming into your home to give personal and sometimes intimate care can be extremely awkward, frightening and depersonalising. And when the workplace is someone's home, it takes specific personal skills and training to develop a high standard care relationship with a person who is likely feeling afraid, isolated and lacking control over their life. In this essay, I will explore some of the challenges home caring can present as highlighted by the workers and clients of the Somebody Cares agency and discuss how some of the sensitive home care work situations are being managed....(short extract)
