Conflict is particularly likely to arise during change because it is at such times that established ways of working are challenged. Libraries and Information Services (LIS) are undergoing a period of considerable change in which tensions are unavoidable. Most arguments regarding change and conflict apply generally because they reflect the human factors common to most organisations. Therefore, illustrative examples from LIS are used within the context of the more general argument. A discussion of the nature and types of
