Question: How does cannabis affect the brain?
Answer: Cannabis is a drug that is being used for its medical or psychoactive effect or “high”. It is the drug that is obtained from the plant “Cannabis sativa” (Court, 1998). Although that it has been proven that cannabis effects a number of organs such as the reproductive system and the immune system, most of its effects are on brain. There are different substances in cannabis but the main one, which causes the most effect on the human brain, is 9-tetradrocannabinol or THC. As a matter of fact, it is the dose of THC which determines how strong the cannabis is, for instance Lebanese hashish has a dose of 5-10 %, while the concentration of THC in the street hashish is about 1 (Court, 1998).
