Answer: The Holocaust refers to the mass murder of approximately six million Jews between the years of 1941 to 1945 in Nazi Germany. Historian, Daniel Goldhagen, has argued that the Holocaust was a predetermined plan by the Nazi regime. Intentionalists would argue that this was Hitler's main political aim from as early as the 1920s. However, functionalists believe that there were pressures such as bureaucratic and economic pressures which led to the Holocaust. They believe that the Holocaust was not in fact a predetermined plan but was decided upon due to increasing pressures on the Nazi regime. Functionalists would say that the failure of the Madagascar Plan was a factor and others would say that failure against the Soviets was.
