Answer: In this assignment I am going to consider why someone would consider joining a self- help group and what barriers they may encounter and how people might be helped to overcome such barriers. There are many different self-help groups available to people all offering support and advice on a huge range of different problems. Self-help groups can be sought voluntarily others may be ‘compulsory, as in some mental health settings'. (k101, unit6, p52).

'a self-help group consists of people who have personal experiences of a similar problem or life situation, either directly through their family or friends, sharing experiences enables them to give each other a unique quality of mutual support and to pod information and ways of coping'(k101,unit6 p77).
