Answer: Charles Stewart Parnell was an Irish protestant landowner whom was also a nationalist political leader and founder of the Irish Parliamentary Party formulated in 1882. He was an agitator of land reform with a primary aim to abolish landlordism to allow tenant farmers to own land themselves. William Gladstone Prime Minister at the time appraises Parnell as “the most remarkable and the most interesting. He was an intellectual phenomenon”1. He was seen as a prominent figure in support of Home Rule for Ireland; however depictions of him later would turn against him due to a divorce scandal which significantly brought about the separation of his own party into two, pro- Parnellites and anti-Parnellites as a result of the differences that lied within Home Rule terms in which Gladstone’s proposal was inadequate according to Parnell.
