Question: A piece of creative writing describing what life was like in a WW1 trench: “The monstrous anger of guns.”
Answer: Rats got braver as the war went on. Imagine living in a muddy trench, sharing your small place with millions of fat rats, running and snuggling on dead bodies. Brown and black rats made the conditions of trenches more horrible for the soldiers and ideal for themselves. Life in trenches was very brutal, with those dull cold days when the lines and lines of dead men killed by guns repeatedly mowed down one after the other. It was looking like the anger of enemies was transferred onto the guns.
My trench experience was so horrendous. It was the most ruthless system I have ever lived in because my life was filled of horror and death was never far away. Death was a constant companion to those who were serving in the front line. Without any attacks there were random deaths due to the shellfire engaged by the enemy.
