Question: TMA 03 To what extent is Rassool’s research sensitive to race and ethnicity issues? Discuss with reference to different parts of the research, such as choice of research topic, research question, methodology and participants.
Answer: This assignment will consider the extent to which Rassool’s (1999) research into Flexible identities: exploring race and gender issues, is sensitive to race and ethnicity issues. It will begin by looking at the ideological framework within which research is set and the significance that the framework can have on choosing a research topic. It will then look at the issue of power imbalance and how a researcher’s choice of methodology or of participants can impact on power issues. Finally it will examine the extent to which Rassool took account of and dealt with these issues and the extent to which her research was sensitive to race and ethnicity issues.
