Question: TMA 01 Choose any three papers you have read so far from Reader A. Discuss the different approaches taken by the researchers to their data collection.
Answer: This essay will consider the research papers by Takai (2001), Pickett et al (2002) and Aldgate and Bradley (1999) in relation to the approaches they take to their data collection. Takai (2001) used an observational approach to collect data in his study into how deaf infants attain first signs. Picket et al (2002) chose to use a survey in the form of a questionnaire in their study into multiple risk behaviour and injury, while Aldgate and Bradley (1999) collected their data using interviews, for their study investigating children’s experiences of short term accommodation. As each of the research papers chosen uses a different method for data collection, and also include different approaches to analysing the collected data, these three papers allow a good comparison of the different approaches.
