Answer: SUMMARY
This report has addressed a range of issues that involve the protection of children that are at risk, with particular emphasis upon the success or otherwise of multi-disciplinary working. It incorporates data from both official Government sources and charities involved in the field. The facts that rates of homicide, abuse and neglect are not yet falling and in some instances are still rising has been a key motivation for the production of this report and has influenced the conclusions and recommendations made.
As shown in this report, the current Government appears committed to continuing to improve the effectiveness of child protection, but it is clear that more needs to be done. Regardless of the present constraints on public sector budgets, this report makes it clear that current investment in this area needs to be maintained. What price the life or wellbeing of a child?
