A non- judgemental approach to practice is essential in working in a early years setting because everyone should be treated fairly and equally. If a non – judgemental approach is shown this could lead to stereotyping and discrimination. It important that practitioners are aware of the effect stereotyping can have on people. Children are individuals so we shouldn’t make up our minds about them until we get to know them fully. When children are stereotyped they can feel ignored and worthless, angry and frustrated. If stereotyping continues it can affect a child’s self esteem and self concept. Both direct and indirect discrimination should be avoided by practitioners to show a non- judgemental approach when working with children in a early years...(short extract)
