Answer: Sexuality in childhood is often a source of anxiety and concern for adults conjuring up images of abuse or exploitation, but we tend to think of the word sexuality to mean something private and individual, and referring to only sexual behaviour and romantic relationships. But researchers have suggested that sexuality is much broader than this, and is related to many aspects of everyday life. The term ‘sexuality’ here refers not just to sex acts and sexual identities but also to desires, ideas, actions and ways of thinking. It is also closely connected to gender identities and performances. Adults seem often unaware that children deal with sexuality on a daily basis in school or through play.
