Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Discuss Shakespeare’s use of language, characters, action and dramatic devices to emphasise the violence in Act 3 Scene 1.
Answer: William Shakespeare was born on 26th April in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon and died on 23 April 1616.He was known as the greatest writer of the English language. As well as a variety of other poems, Shakespeare wrote 38 plays and 154 sonnets .Many of Shakespeare’s plays were successful and were performed in the theatre, however, women were not allowed to take part in these plays. Occasionally, the theatres would be closed for a period of time due to the plague. The audience were spilt in two different parts; the poorer and the richer. The poorer were forced to stand, while the wealthy people were able to have seats. Violence in plays was used to make the play more attention-grabbing and to maintain the audience’s interests. To emphasise the violence William Shakespeare used language, characters, action, and dramatic devices.
