Answer: It has long been suggested that humans are a sophisticated species. However, as children, particularly babies, humans rely upon others for their survival. Many psychologists suggest that during this critical period we are not only learning the key aspects for survival, but how to bond with others. This bonding is significant as it forms the foundation for our growth and development. Cultural norms are not consistent within different society’s which also has an effect on children’s development.
Attachment is an emotional bond connecting one person to another, however the bond is not always reciprocated (Ainsworth, 1973). Harlow and Zimmerman (1958), studied emotional bonds between new-born monkeys and their mothers.
