Question: TMA 04 The search for security encourages the acceptance of increased personal responsibility as much as it highlights the need for protection from others.
Critically discuss the relationship between these two aspects of the process. Draw on evidence from at least two chapters of book 2 and one of the academic journal articles.
Answer: I will briefly explain what we mean by the term security and I shall focus on the family as a site of security and a site of potential insecurity. I will use examples of evidence from chapter three to discuss how governments and policy makers attempt to achieve security within the family. Whilst simultaneously, searching for security outside of the family, through the employment of early intervention and prevention measures. Using examples of evidence from chapter four I shall show how increased intervention is being employed in the search for security which may produce unintended consequences. I shall illustrate how welfare and criminal justice polices sit uneasily together through the process of restorative justice and look at the tensions produced.
