Question: TMA 04 A critical assessment of how the search for security has shaped contemporary approaches to both social welfare and crime control policy?
Answer: The notion of ‘security’ can range from individual and collective feelings of safety, order and assurance. In the search for security - governments, politicians and policymakers aim to achieve and curtail, disorder, insecurities, risks and uncertainties by adopting social welfare and crime control policies. However, these social policies do not always achieve what they were set out to do. This essay will therefore seek to explain the entanglement and tensions in contemporary social welfare and crime control polices, by drawing upon concepts and theories such as risk, responsilisation, punitiveness, and juridification in support of my argument. In following a journal article will be used to reveal such entanglements and tensions.
