Question: Can people still rely on knowledge from experts?
Answer: In recent years with the evolution of the ‘knowledge society’ and technological and communication advances, it seems there has been a shift in the authority of ‘Expert’ knowledge. With the internet and media allowing us more access to diverse sources of knowledge and exposing the often conflicting and competing perspectives within ‘orthodox’ knowledge systems, it poses the question of how reliable these ‘expert’ sources of knowledge are.
It seems that in our contemporary world, some of the old systems and hierarchies where knowledge was predominantly a top down process (from the ‘experts’ to the people) have been shaken and challenged in the light of a wider transmission of many different kinds of knowledge that the technological revolution has made available to a wider audience....(short extract)
