Question: How has the Tate Modern framed the way in which modern and contemporary art is viewed and understood?
Answer: I shall be examining the arrangement of sculptures, installations and photographs found in the Sarah Lucas room in the Tate Modern in the Display Theme area titled Still – Life/Object/Real Life (fig. 1 is a bird’s – eye view of the room.) I chose this room as it is works by just one artist and due to the interesting way an area of the room has been fenced off, effecting the way in which the observers are motioned to walk around the room. In the wider context I will be looking at whether an object is favoured over another if it is in an easily accessible position, or if it bares any significance whether it is near a door. I will also look at how the pieces are arranged, whether it is by the size or the theme of the pieces....(short extract)
