Question: What are the strengths and limitations of 'Plan, Do, Review' models in relation to reflective practice and critical campaigning in youth and community work?
You should use either an historical or a contemporary example of campaigning in this essay and critically analyse the potential for the youth and community worker/project to act as enabler and/or ally and/or advocate.
(The example that this essay will focus will be the role of the youth worker as an ally regarding the campaign for ‘Dudley Mosque’. Dudley Mosque was campaigning to gain permission to expand and build a new mosque to fulfill the demands of the Muslim population in Dudley.)
Answer: The ‘Plan, Do and Review’ model has been a key tool used by many campaign groups and organizations; on a localized level with community groups campaigning to keep local amenities accessible, or a national platform with groups such as the Suffragettes and LGBT lobbying for equality and recognition of identity. The Plan, Do and Review models have developed from the works of Dewey and later the work of Kolb.
The example that this essay will focus will be the role of the youth worker as an ally regarding the campaign for ‘Dudley Mosque’.
