Question: Chemistry Lab Report: How much iron is in a sample of iron (II) ammonium sulfate?
Answer: Abstract – In a titration of iron (II) ammonium sulfate solution with potassium manganate (VII) solution, where the iron (II) sulfate solution is green due to the Fe2+ ions (or quite colourless when dissolved and diluted) reacts with the deep purple (due to the MnO4- ions) potassium manganate (VII) solution to form a light brown solution with Fe3+ ions and a colourless solution with Mn2- ions. When a pale pink solution is formed, all the iron (II) ions have reacted with the manganate (VII) MnO4- ions. From out results, we have found that 14.29% of the sample of iron (II) ammonium sulfate contains iron (II) ions.
Aim – To find out the % amount of Iron (II) ions in a sample of iron (II) ammonium sulfate solution by titrating it with potassium manganate (VII) solution. This can be done by finding the titre of potassium manganate (VII) solution required to reach the endpoint of the r...(short extract)
