Question: The effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction between a Magnesium Ribbon and Hydrochloric Acid.

Answer: The aim of the experiment is to see what effect temperature has on the rate of reaction between hydrochloric acid and magnesium ribbon. This will be achieved by measuring the volume of hydrogen evolved at different temperatures. The higher the temperature the more heat energy the particles have so there should be more collisions. Consequently hydrogen gas will be evolved at a faster rate. This is called “the collision theory”. This means the opposite should happen at lower temperatures, slower reactions because the less heat energy the particles have therefore particles collide less frequently....(short extract)
