Question: The construction industry is a major contributor to UK GDP & its public sector is a major procurer of construction goods.
Discuss, using specific reference to current practice and appropriate case studies, the public sector’s role in driving the initiatives proposed in government reports such as ‘Constructing the Team’, ‘Rethinking Construction’ and ‘Accelerating Change’.

Answer: Government investment in construction is one of the most beneficial uses of public expenditure, and construction is one of the best ways of stimulating economic activity, it also has one of the lowest levels of imports, so the spending stays within the national economy. Construction can also drive growth in other sectors due to its extended and varied supply chain such as aggregates, renting of machinery, plastic products, wood products, metal products, and this contributes to employment.
Due to the multitudes of problems over years with recessions, the UK construction industry had to rethink how it would continue to turn the construction industry around, the UK government had to assembled teams of expert to govern new ways of thinking in the UK construction industry so the government needed to review the procurement and contractual arrangements within the UK and so Sir Michael Latham...(short extract)
