Answer: Part 1 - For many years, Hollywood has depicted Cleopatra as the typical, ‘femme fatale,’ a smouldering timeless seductress, a doomed lover, who took her own life so dramatically rather than accept her fate and succumb to her enemies. The story of Cleopatra is clearly a Technicolor dream, but is the glitz of the film industry’s interpretation of this powerful Hellenistic Queen accurate?
Few artefacts remain of the true image of this most powerful Queen of Egypt, but from her portrait on the coins (Fear, 2008, p, 21 Fig 1.4) we see that she was no legendary beauty. The film industry, more or less has a blank canvas to please their audience, and bring this mysterious Queen to life. This they have repeated many times over the years, albeit with a fragmented view of the real Cleopatra, and with a degree of imagination, and ingenuity, they have succeeded in creating a timeless icon o...(short extract)
