Answer: As the extract is from Robespierre’s personal diary it is a private source, and for this reason it could be assumed that it wasn’t to be read by anyone except fr Robespierre, and therefore there would be no reason why it should deliberately contain lies. However, as the diary informs us itself, there was an atmosphere of suspicion and fear so conceivably he may have feared that others may read it. One of its strengths as a source for a study of the French Revolution is that it was written at a time when the movement was powerful, though its weakness is that we don’t have an exact date. Furthermore, it is only an extract from his diary, though a significant part of the journal, we are not clear how it relates to the rest of his entries....(short extract)
