Answer: Another example that linking feelings of happiness with relationships are studies carried out by Robert Lane (2000) who claimed that happiness is gained through relationships with other people and that “once people rise above the poverty level happiness tends to lie in the quality of friendships and family life” Peer interactions in adolescence become stronger with the sharing of secrets and intimate information forging strong bonds. These relationships can enhance self esteem and through the support they offer issues in day to day life can be dealt with. As people get older relationships change, one way of maintaining good relationships is by appreciating them and showing that appreciation by expressing gratitude. Expressing gratitude not only makes someone feel good but also makes us feel good (Seligman 2005)
