Answer: 1.1 - The Children Act 1989 is the main piece of legislation relating to safeguarding children. It is based on key principles that establishes the way in which child protection takes place. These main principles include: the welfare of the child is paramount, categorizing of what significant harm is, what ‘in need’ means and what duties of care are expected and required. After the enquiry into the Victoria Climbie, the Children Act 2004 was made which made clear the importance of multi agency partnerships. There is also a part of the Act that relates solely to Wales.

The Education Act 2002 was passed with the intentions of raising the standards in schools. The Act put a responsisbility on schools to report child protection issues.
