Question: Improving patients’ quality of life when receiving cancer care: The attitudes and perception of oncology nurses in regards to oral care (OC).

Answer: Introduction
The aim of this briefing paper is to highlight the attitudes and perception of oncology nurses in regards to oral care (OC). One of the most neglected areas of care in practice is OC which has a major effect on patients’ quality of life (Salmone et al, 2013). The National Cancer Institute (2014) stated that poor mouth care poses a risk for cancer patient as it increases oral complications due to the severity of cancer treatment. This paper discusses the reasons behind nurses’ perceptions that OC is not a high priority and how change can be effected. Two recommendations will be put forward that could be implemented in practice which enhances OC. In order to maintain confidentiality the name of the setting will remain anonymous (Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2015).
