Answer: Outcome 1.
1.1 The most important purpose of assessment is to gain knowledge of the learner’s previous learning and understanding, and to use this knowledge to facilitate future learning and offer feedback and support if necessary. Therefore it is important it is a two way process between learner and assessor. During assessments assessor and learner should identify goals, objectives, and expected results. It is essential for the assessor to determine what the learner should know, understand, and be able to do, and communicate this clearly to the learner.
Assessment for learning is viewed as an ongoing process, and should continue throughout a learner’s journey (formative assessment). There also may be a more formal assessment at the end of each unit or qualification (summative assessment.)
