Answer: The social ecological perspective is an interdisciplinary, child centred approach which is concerned with the relationships between various personal and environmental factors in an attempt to understand the impact and influence that they may have on child development. A theoretical approach, it takes in to account all aspects that can affect an individual to understand the complexity of the problems faced by young people and to develop intervention initiatives. An alternative theory to constructionism, this approach is not without its limitations which need to be taken in to consideration. By looking at the different relationships within the social ecological model and how these can impact children, this essay will aim to discuss both the advantages and limitations for practitioners using the social ecological perspective in their work with children and young people.
