Within my area of practice, working with children aged two to three years, we focus on four key areas of development: cognitive; physical; communicative and social, emotional. Piaget’s active learning perspective is one of our main focus points in that we support his belief that children need to be in control of their own environment and learning; finding things out, solving problems and constructing knowledge. Emphasis is placed on the process of learning rather than outcomes and end products. The environment is the third teacher and we value the children’s need to move around easily and explore thoroughly – this is achieved by creating a simple learning environment and providing plenty of space with well thought out play areas.
Activities are self-motivating to engage the children and thus further their own development. We provide open-ended material...(short extract)
