Answer: Group living has always proved a challenge to delivering person centred care. A group living environment should be designed to meet and deliver for the specific needs of the individual in situations that feel normal rather than institutional.

One of the biggest challenges facing person centred care in a group environment is routines. We want to place the service user at the centre of everything we do so we can deliver person centred care, but we have to deliver to a lot of people who are living in a group environment. Historically we have done this by running the home by routines which then become tasks, once they take precedence we become institutionalised.
