Answer: 1.1 I work in substance misuse and the criminal justice service at London Borough Tower Hamlets Drug Intervention Programme (DIP).
My role is as a Case Manager, I work directly with clients who are involved in the criminal justice system and are affected by substance misuse related issues. Any clients who are arrested and test positive for class ‘A’ drugs as defined by the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 are assessed at the police station and if appropriate are then given a compulsory appointment by the police to come and attend a follow up appointment in the community for an assessment. If the client fails to attend the appointment then they will be breached and will get arrested again at some point in the future and the criminal justice process will proceed.
A client may also get referred to DIP by their probation officer, if the client discloses to them that they have a drug problem. M...(short extract)
