Answer: 4.1.1 People communicate for a wide variety of reasons, for example, to express needs, to share ideas and information, to reassure, express feelings and emotions, socialise, ask questions, share experience’s, give instructions, share opinions, give encouragement. Communication allows for discussion and debate and can ensure that problems are not kept to yourself but can be shared and solved. Good communications can help build relationships with others and is very important for an individual’s development.

4.1.2 There are a number of factors to consider when communication with others. Probably the most important is considering the person or persons that you are communicating with and things such as their age, level of understanding and their preferred method of communication e.g. are they verbal or prefer to use picture cards or sign language.
